The Karoo Winter Wool Festival 

Our vision for the Karoo Winter Wool festival is to create a unique experience that promotes one of the products that the Karoo is most famous for, wool. We hope to create an opportunity to educate people about wool, why it is such a wonderful fibre and how it becomes the garments and items that we use everyday (Farm – Fashion ; Shed – Shop) . Not only do we want to show the process, but we also want to celebrate all the businesses that are creating beautiful woollen products with our South African wool. We would like to give all woollen product producers an opportunity to showcase their products and share their stories and develop strong networks, therefore helping to strengthen the wool network in South Africa.

 

This festival not only concentrates on Wool, but also wishes to promote all things authentically Karoo. We would like to highlight everything that makes the Karoo special, like wide open spaces, beautiful scenery, delicious food and drink, good company and amazing hospitality. We aspire to inspire a love for the Karoo and the special charm that Winter in the Karoo brings with it.


The Karoo Winter Wool Festival will host a celebration of our famous Karoo export. This unique festival will gather people to discover the incredible and historical qualities of wool and it's diverse uses, from farm to fashion, and shed to shop.

Knit your square to show you care... 

Start knitting your square to donate to the Karoo Winter Wool Festival square drive co-ordinated by St Barnabas Church.

Bring your square to the knitting corner at the Karoo Winter Wool Market or knit a square at the festival where wool, needles and comfortable seating will be provided.

All squares will be made into lovely blankets for those who battle the Karoo winter with little warmth or shelter.

Woolmark Prize winners coming to Middelburg for the first Karoo Winter Wool Festival 

The Karoo Winter Wool Festival is a space for celebration, collaboration and learning as the fashion and agricultural industries collide on this wool producing farm in the heart of the Karoo. 

We are so honoured to announce that the incredible design duo Mmusomaxwell will be joining us at the first ever Karoo Winter wool festival in collaboration with TWYG Africa Textile Talks. Mmusomaxwell is a brand known for its stunning ready-to-wear high end women's garments. Their brand celebrates African culture and heritage as well as the textiles and artisans who form part of it. The duo recently won the prestigious Karl Lagerfeld Award for innovation at the International Woolmark Prize. 

Cath them at the Winter Wool Festival in Middelburg (EC) from the 24th to the 26th June, or online during TWYG's African Textile Talks. 

COR and TWYG Circle of Care 

Twyg and City of Refugee are teaming up to hold a wonderful intimate community circle of care creativity project during the upcoming Karoo Winter Wool festival.  We look forward to seeing the beautiful creations that are bound to come out of the healing morning of textile creativity. 

Children's corner 

We are excited to be partnering with Unie Laerskool in the organising of the Children's corner of the Karoo Winter Wool Festival. Unie Laerskool has some exciting activities up their sleeves to entertain the little ones while you listen to some speakers, explore the market or do a workshop.  All proceeds will be going to the school to help create a better learning environment for the children of Steynsberg. 

Middelburg Ratepayers Forum doing their bit!

Middelburg - WE CARE !! Getting our town back into shape - just in time for all the visitors during the Karoo Winter Wool Festival.

We are so grateful for the phenomenal effort that the Middelburg Ratepayers Forum have made to enable a visible change in the town of Middelburg. Patching up potholes, collecting litter, cutting the grass, this fantastic forum will stop at nothing to get Middelburg back into shape for our visitors.

This festival is all about celebrating natural fibres and all things authentically Karoo! Come Dance the night away in a Karoo wool shed, run or ride through the beautiful Karoo Koppies, learn about wool, marvel at unique South African made woollen products, indulge in delicious Karoo food and drink, make friends and perhaps some new business connections. There is plenty of kids’ entertainment so bring your children along.
